Judging Criteria

Each breed has a standard for what that breed of cat should look like.  A "breed council" has put together these standards for each breed, and the CFA publishes these standards.  For example, Siamese are long and slender with tight smooth coats, Persians are short and stocky with long, fluffy coats.  Ears and muzzles must be just so, color must fit the color class, etc.

The judge must look at all the standards for each breed and color, and make his/her decision as to which of the cats being judged fits those standards best.  The judge first looks for the ranking of cats within a color class and within the same sex of that color class.
